Vintage Chandeliers | Valley Auburn Opelika Alabama Antique Store
Chandeliers have always captured the eye, their glittering presence adding whimsy, charm, and drama to any space. Need help on picking the perfect chandelier for your space? Here are a few do’s and dont’s to help you to select the perfect one! And as always we have a fabulous selection of vintage chandeliers in the store for you to choose from. These beauties come in all shapes and sizes and add instant character and interest to any room!
DO make sure your chandelier is the right size. A good rule of thumb is to add the dimensions of the room together in feet and then convert the answer to inches. The answer in inches should equal the diameter of the fixture. So if your room measures 10′ x 15′ the diameter of the fixture should be about 25″.
DON’T necessarily follow the size rule in dining rooms. Take the size of the table into account. The diameter of a dining room fixture should be about one half to two thirds the width of the table or about a foot less than the width of the table at it’s widest point. (In many cases these measurements will be the same).
DO go bigger rather smaller in a dining room. If the fixture seems too large hang it a bit closer to the ceiling so it doesn’t feel so overwhelming.
DON’T let it be closer than four feet from any wall if you can help it. Really it shouldn’t be closer than 48 inches to any piece of furniture such as a cabinet or sideboard. This isn’t always possible in small spaces but it’s a good rule to keep inDO hang chandeliers low enough so they light up the desired area, but not so low that anyone will hit their head.
DON’T limit yourself to just one chandelier in a very large room. Instead opt for two slightly smaller fixtures.
DO use chandeliers in a variety of rooms. They look great in bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and even home offices.
DON’T be afraid to experiment with styles. Sometimes a modern chandelier can look great in a room full of antiques, and a vintage piece can look terrific in a contemporary room.DON’T hang overly ornate chandeliers too low. Since heavy-looking fixtures take up a lot of visual space it’s okay to break the rules and hang them a few inches higher than the normal standard.
DO install dimmer switches on every chandelier in your home. They’re terrific for creating ambiance and offering a more flattering light.

Vintage Craft Room Inspiration | Valley Auburn Alabama Antique Store
I just love how Kelly from Eclectically Vintage puts it……
I have a dream.
A dream that when I walk into my guest bedroom turned craft room/office/mom cave/great escape, I will be in organized nirvana.
The heavens will part …
the choirs will sing …
and little winged cherubs will descend down upon my space and magically turn it into a “so organized that you can bounce a quarter off of it” room.
Do you dream of a fabulous craft room…..with all of it’s vintage goodness. A place that begs you to sit, stay a while, and create? It might be easier than you think! Here are a few of our favorites and a few tips to help get you started!
Come into the new store at 559 Fob James Dr in Valley, AL and find all the fabulous vintage furniture, bins, containers, shelves, and whatever your little mind can think up! Make your craft room dream a reality!!
Tip: Compile a list of the supplies you need to organize, and measure items that have special storage needs. Take this list with you when deciding what to purchase for your space.
Tip: Remember to use spaces like the back of a door or the side of the desk. A paper-towel holder can be mounted to the end to hold ribbon.
Tip: Keep multiple cutting mats handy as well as plastic shower curtains to cover work surfaces when painting or cutting.
Tip: Wall space is some of the most valuable, but often overlooked, space. Pegboards, bulletin boards, shelves, and magnetic boards are just a few of the many options for using the wall for display space and inspirational ideas.
Tip: Create stations in your crafts room. If you have the luxury of an entire room, set zones for different activities, such as a gift wrapping, painting, scrapbooking, and sewing, and organize supplies accordingly.

Spools, Bobbins & Spindles Oh MY! | Auburn Opelika Antique Store
We have long admired vintage wooden spools, bobbins and spindles. Born in the textile mills, textile industry around the world is literally carried on the shoulders of bobbins, spools, and shuttles. In common terminology, the bobbins were used to wind spun yarn on a compact carrier that could in inserted in the center of a shuttle and shot across the open weaving shed to form the filling or pick. A spool is another name for a yarn carrier often used to carry thread for sewing (thread is generally finer than yarn). Now with advances in technology these treasures are getting harder and harder to find and we have come to value these beautiful utilitarian objects as decor.
We have gathered a little inspiration for you all and hopefully you will get a little spark and know the perfect use for them in your home. As always……you can find your very own at Resurrect Antiques!
